The book, Inside the O”Brien’s is a fictitious story about a family with Huntington’s disease. Lisa Genova is a great writer and I applaud her for writing the story. Her Huntington’s Disease Society of America donation page is: http://hdsa.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.event&eventID=677
My story, Watching Their Dance: Three Sisters, One Genetic Disease and Marrying into a Family At Risk for Huntington’s, is an explicitly true life account of the stress living AT RISK creates in a family and the sadness of watching and caring for loved ones who are slowly having everything stolen from them,; their mind, body, choices, life and dignity. At the same time, it is a tender love story between John and Therese and how Huntington’s disease created a love and a bond so strong that nothing, not even Huntington’s, could tear them apart.
